There are myriad ways to embrace the humble sari—layered, ruffled, textured, embroidered and so on, but Shlipa Shetty is bringing a half-and-half version forward. Recently, the star attended Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani’s wedding in Goa where numerous stars put on their traditional best, but Shilpa Shetty brought a contemporary twist to her sartorial choice.
Styled by Meagan Concessio, Shilpa Shetty wore an Arpita Mehta creation consisting of a gold tissue and a georgette sari. While the tissue part forms the pallu and the front of the outfit, the sequinned georgette forms the skirt of the ensemble. The border is embroidered with the brand’s trademarked mirror work that is found in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The half-and-half sari is quite a popular option in South India, though the lower half is often a skirt. The mirror pieces used here, are larger in size and more reflective, compared to Panday’s look at the same event. Georgette is also easier to pleat and hold unlike poofy tissue, hence the placement. She paired the sari with a pearl choker and stud earrings.
The gold-foil tissue sari in the recent past saw a rise in popularity, all thanks to the iconic appearances by Rekha whose Kaanjeeveram saris majorly comprise of the shiny fabric. Actor Sobhita Dhulipala has also taken a liking to saris made of this sheer lustrous fabric on multiple occasions.
