‘Star Wars: Outlaws’ Reaches Momentous Milestone as Game Has Now Gone “Gold”

With a little less than two months away from release, Star Wars: Outlaws has now officially gone “gold.” According to a new announcement on X/TwitterStar Wars: Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, is “gold,” which traditionally means work on the base game has finished. This allows time for the game to be printed on discs and to get ready for distribution. However, the game is still a ways away from release, and Star Wars: Outlaws going “gold” may not have the same meaning as other games.

The announcement came alongside a small teaser posted on social media. Deathtroopers, more traversal, and more action can be seen here:

A game “going gold” is typically a big deal in game development. This marks the point where a game has been “completed” and is ready to be shipped to packagers and distributors, printed on discs, wrapping up years of hard work. But it appears that Outlaws may not be entirely printed on the disc itself, as the front cover has a fine text near the bottom-left corner saying that an internet connection is still required to install the game. So even though the game is ready for printing on blu-rays, that might not mean much if players still need a secondary component to play the game anyways.

This announcement is also relatively early. Most game developers make the “gold” announcement less than a month away from release (i.e. Stellar Blade’s announcement 17 days before release). Undoubtedly, Massive Entertainment will continue refining and polishing the game before release, prepping any future updates, bug fixes, or “patches” that players can later download. But this also gives Massive Entertainment time to possibly work on post-launch content, including additional missions, costumes, and more story content, which has already been confirmed.

Either way, fans don’t have to wait much longer as Star Wars: Outlaws releases on August 30 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
