Team USA win first gold and Adam Peaty qualifies for final after Team GB scoop second medal

Back with Joshua Jones at the tennis

What do I know?!

Spain break to love and we are back on serve in the second!

We’ve had the order of play through for tomorrow, too, and it features a certain Andy Murray.

It could be the final tennis match of his extraordinary career as he and Dan Evans face Japanese pair Kei Nishikori and Taro Daniel fifth on the roofed Court Suzanne-Lenglen – depending on the length of the matches before them, that will likely be around 6.30pm tomorrow.

SunSport’s Martin Lipton is poolside in Paris

Bad news for Scotland’s Keanna MacInnes, whose hopes of making the 100m butterfly final failed to materialise at La Defense Arena.

MacInnes, 23, had been the slowest of the morning’s qualifiers and unsurprisingly finished last in hee semi-final in 58.11secs, well behind the Olympic record pace of 55.38 set by Gretchen Walsh of the US.

The British champion gave her all but ended up the slowest in the semis as well.

Terri Huske of America edged out defending champion Zhang Yufei, one if the 11 Chinese swimmers caught up in the TMZ test failure storm, in the other semi.

The view from Joshua Jones

Spain up against it in the second set.

Nadal drops his serve in disappointing fashion before the Argentines consolidate as Gonzalez holds for 3-0.

Over at the boxing, Britain’s Charley Davison has lost on points to Turkey’s Hatice Akbas in the 54kg weight division.

Walsh sets tone for swimming

Team USA’s Gretchen Walsh has got an exciting night of swimming off to a fly-er.

The 21-year-old from Nashville set a new Olympic record for the 100m butterfly in the event’s first semi-final, cruising away from her opponents to finish in 55:38.

It has hopefully set the tone for a thrilling evening in the pool at the París La Defense Arena with the final of both the Men and Women’s 400m freestyle (individual and relay) still to come.

More from SunSport’s Joshua Jones

Antoine proves his Dupont.

There was a brief delay in the tie-break when the entire stadium burst into chants of ‘Allez Les Bleus’ and waved their tricolores wildly.

And that was because Antoine Dupont turned on the style to lead France to gold medal glory.

The Six Nations-winning skipper in 15s skipped the 2024 tournament to focus on sevens – and what a decision it was.

He came on at half-time with the scores locked at 7-7 and changed the game.

His first play saw him sprint 60 yards down the wing and set up a try – before going over for two of his own to secure an emotional 28-7 final victory over unbeaten Fiji.

Incredible scenes in the Stade de France!

Joshua Jones watches Nadal and Alcaraz take first set

Game and first set, Spain – 7-4 in the tie-break.

Alcaraz lost his serve in the very opening game of the match – only for Spain to break straight back.

Nadal – who boasts a ludicrous 112-4 record in his French Open career here at Roland Garros – produces a few moments of magic while Alcaraz isn’t operating at his top, top level having played singles earlier on today.

The Argentines have been solid, in fairness.

A long, long, lonnnnng Mexican wave halted the start of the game at 6-5 but it went to a tie-break.

Six points all on serve until Alcaraz literally takes the racquet out of his opponent’s hand with one of those trademark forehands.

At 5-3, a series of ripped groundstrokes from Alcaraz ends when he lobs beautifully and Nadal smashes it away to set up three set points…

And Nadal seals it with a backhand winner up the line.
