T&F: Piquart Gold Highlights Day Two at SLC Indoor Championships


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Alex Piquart took gold in the men’s mile to lead the HCU men and women on day two of the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex on Monday.

 

Fresh off a gold yesterday evening in the men’s distance medley relay, senior Alex Piquart made it a double-gold performance with a win in the mile. He crossed the finish line in 4:16.37 to earn the top spot on the podium. Another member of the Huskies’ gold medal DMR, Krzysztof Turski, picked up another medal with a third-place finish in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:53.17.

 

Justice Artisst secured his second medal of the championships, earning bronze with a time of 8:21.08 in the 3,000 meters. In the men’s 60-meter hurdles, a pair of freshmen picked up points with SJ Marais crossing the finish line in 8.35 to place fourth while Ashton Munoz-Nieves posted a time of 8.47 to finish seventh. In the women’s 60h, Brianna Hinds ran a PR time of 8.88 to come in sixth.

 

Denzel Hinds placed sixth in the men’s 400 meters, putting up a time of 48.83, while in the women’s mile, Destiny Quintanilla finished in 5:11.33 to place eighth. Josh Gillis-Harry recorded a top mark of 14.72m/48-3.50 in the men’s triple jump to finish sixth.

 

In the final races of the day, the men’s 4×400 team of Denzel Hinds, Charles Beckworth, Mark Ngei and Ashton Munoz-Nieves taking seventh place with a time of 3:21.22 while the women’s 4×400 team consisting of Maria Bangala, Kemaya Linton, Brianna Hinds and Raylen Russell posted a time of 3:52.98 to finish eighth.

 

The HCU men and women will have a couple of weeks before the start of the outdoor season which begins in town at the TSU Relays across town at Durley Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 16-17.
