The CEO of The Star Gold Coast, Jessica Mellor, has announced her resignation just six months after stepping into the property’s top job.
In yet another blow to Star Entertainment Group’s dwindling leadership team following the recent departure of group Managing Director and CEO Robbie Cooke, the company said via an ASX release that Mellor would depart effective 24 May 2024, although she will lend support as part of a transitional period until September.
Mellor had been COO of The Star Gold Coast since 2019 before being promoted to CEO last October. In the process, she became the property’s first female CEO and also its youngest.
Executive chair David Foster said, “Jessica has led The Star Gold Coast through some challenging times including through COVID and has been instrumental in developing the Gold Coast property into an iconic world class integrated destination resort with our joint venture partners.
“Jessica has decided the time is right to move on and she leaves with both the Board’s and my personal thanks for her tireless efforts as CEO of The Star Gold Coast.”
Mellor’s departure comes in the midst of a second inquiry into The Star Sydney’s suitability to hold a casino license. Among the revelations tendered by witnesses this week has been the lack of leadership in place across the organization to drive cultural change, with the company’s Sydney and Brisbane properties having only recently names CEOs.
