HYDERABAD: The Telangana police have seized cash, liquor, precious metals, narcotic drugs, and freebies worth Rs 49 crore in just three weeks of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The MCC came into effect on March 16, 2024, in connection with the Parliament elections in Telangana to be held on May 13 for 17 Parliament constituencies.
Ever since the MCC came into effect, as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana, the police formed 466 flying squads, 85 State internal border check posts besides mobile parties of local police to curb illegal transportation of money, liquor and freebies.
During round-the-clock enforcement from March 16 to April 6, a total cash of Rs 31,12.05.410, liquor worth Rs 3,21,13,070, narcotic drugs worth Rs 5,41,37,276, precious metals worth Rs 7,66,92,954 and freebies worth Rs 1,62,80,791, totaling Rs 49,04.29,501 (Rs 49.04 crore) was seized.
The police received 6,646 licensed arms and 8 unlicensed arms for deposit and seized huge quantities of various kinds of explosives including gelatin sticks and detonators.
