Album Review: Freedom Call – Silver Romance – New Noise Magazine

Freedom Call are a melodic metal band from the south of Germany, who have just released their eleventh studio album, Silver Romance. The album is set to release on May 10, 2024 via Steamhammer/SPV.

The album definitely captures the power that melodic metal can have. With a collection of thirteen tracks at a length of 53 minutes, Silver Romance, captures the essence of thirteen different feels. It makes for such a great record as no two tracks are alike. The only thing that links them together is the fact that they are all melodic metal.

The opening track, is also the title track of the record, “Silver Romance” is quite the powerful opening track. There are two different vocalists that compliment each other nicely. The overall beat of the track is very catchy. “Symphony of Avalon” was one of those tracks that leaves an impression, especially if an interest is the midieval period. It captures the majestic feel that you expect from that period of time, between the chugging guitars and the drums.

Later on the album, during track six, “Distant Horizon,” things get changed up with heavier instrumentals. It might be less melodic and more symphonic but it works nicely with the lyrics and all of the other parts of the song. It brings a nice element as it’s not what most would expect but to switch things up, is quite standard within music. The pentultimate track, “High Above” is definitely one of my favorite tracks and the placement was really well done. When it started, I fell in love with this track and it was difficult not to. It was a dual vocalist track and they utilized it greatly. There were also factors such as the instruments. The guitars and the drums compliment each other nicely. The final track, “Metal Generation,” it left a positive response from me as it’s a solid track. The best thing that this track did was bring in different elements from all sorts of genres. There were some from nu-metal and symphonic metal.

Overall, this album is a masterpiece and it was difficult to pick favorites. Each had something to offer that was different from the others.
