Double 1,500 and 3,000m silver for Tipperary athlete at National Indoors Championship

Last Sunday week saw the National Masters indoor Championships take place in Athlone.

One of the J&N coached members and regular Park Runner Noel Howley competed in the over 75, 1500m and 3,000m National Finals.

Clonmel AC member had Noel only recently broken the over 75 Clonmel Park Run record of 24.56 which puts him in the top 76% in the country.

Well Noel after some procrastination regarding running the national championships bit the proverbial bullet and proved that percentile right by winning silver medals in both events.

In the 1,500 metres Noel was up against seasoned world and European international masters medalists Martin McEvilly of Galway City Harriers and Michael Kiely of Mallow AC. Noel went off strongly and dictated the pace all the way until the final lap when Martin McEvilly won in 6.12.47 outkicking Noel who finished 2nd in 6.25.43 with Michael Kiely back in 3rd in 7.03. This was such a fine performance from Noel against such seasoned masters athletes.

In the 3,000 metres later in the day Noel again ran a fantastic race to again finish in the sliver medal position in 15.09.99 and to the winner Martin McEvilly who won gold in a National record of 13.03.95 bettering the previous record by 40 secs.

J & N Coaching wish to congratulate Noel on a wonderful debt in the national masters arena. It is truly inspirational to others seeing your commitment to your sport and hopefully many others will follow your example.
