BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Silver Airways is grounded, according to a post on social media by the company.
The airline advised travelers not to go to the airport for their Silver Airways flight, because all operations for the company were ceasing on Wednesday, June 11.
The company’s message did go on to say that credit card purchases should be refundable.
Silver Airways filed for Chapter 11 protection late last year. The shut down on Wednesday was due to a decision made by the company in charge of Silver’s assets, according to the post.
The company offered nonstop flights at airports out of South Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, Key West and to Pensacola out of Tampa International Airport. Flights were also offered to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
The airline is headquartered in Hollywood. On its bankruptcy filing, it said they have more than a thousand creditors and owe anywhere from $100,000,000 to $500,000,000.
A court hearing for the South Florida company is taking place in federal court on Wednesday.
