Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, presented the national team with silver medals as they emerged as the runners-up in the 2023 Asian Cup, having been defeated by the Qatari team in the final match.
In the championship match held at the Lusail World Cup Stadium, the national football team lost to the Qatari team with a score of 3-1. Qatar’s goals were scored by Akram Afif, who converted three penalty kicks in the 22nd and 73rd minutes, and during stoppage time. Yazan Al-Naimat scored Jordan’s lone goal in the 67th minute.
This victory secured Qatar’s second consecutive title in the Asian Cup.
Prior to the final, Jordan’s national team made history by reaching the championship match for the first time after defeating South Korea with a 2-0 victory at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium. On the other hand, Qatari club Annabi defeated Iran 3-2 in their respective match.
