Live updates as police shut off Silver Jubilee Bridge for ‘safety reasons’

Police have this evening shut off the Silver Jubilee Bridge ‘for safety reasons’. Officers say the closure has been brought in due to ‘high winds’ as the public are being urged to avoid the area.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix issued an alert saying the bridge had been shut due to a ‘police incident’ at 7.10pm. Since then Cheshire Police issued an update on social media confirming officers were liaising with highways officials with the route ‘blocked on both sides’.

Since then neighbourhood officers have posted an update on Facebook. It states: “The Silver Jubilee Bridge between Runcorn and Widnes is currently closed in both directions for safety reasons related to high winds, please avoid the area.”

We will provide further updates in our dedicated blog below.
