Three fighters from Fight City Muay Thai and Fitness have returned to the island with silver medals from the Tournament of Champions at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, last week.
Ashton Bell, Ashleigh Mayo, and debutant Trevor Smith claimed silver in their respective divisions at the annual tournament.
Bell [165Ibs] was stopped in the second round by Bryan Miller, of Revolution Fight and Fitness in Euclid, Ohio; Mayo [117 Ibs] lost by unanimous decision to Cassidy Horton, of Short North Muay Thai in Columbus, Ohio; and Smith [186 lbs] lost via unanimous decision to Wolfgang Stolts, of MX Muay Thai in Superior Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, Jay Astwood [159 Ibs] was defeated by Xavier Gonzalez, of Southside Muay Thai in Toronto, Canada, in the semi-finals via split decision.
Chuck Morgan, the Fight City Muay Thai and Fitness head coach, said he was proud of the team’s efforts and said they were up against top-notch opposition.
“We were a bit disappointed we didn’t come home with any belts,” Morgan told Bernews.
“The level of competition had improved tremendously since we previously competed at this tournament [in 2021].
“Ashton fought a skilled opponent, an undefeated fighter; Trevor also lost to an excellent opponent; and Ashleigh advanced to the finals despite losing via split decision in the semis because her opponent picked up an injury.
“She’s only been training for a year and fought really well against an experienced opponent.”
