BIRMINGHAM, MICHIGAN— Celebrating and honoring his nearly three-decade career as a video journalist, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS)-Michigan Chapter has inducted Mike Horne, Jr. into the prestigious Silver Circle. The ceremony was held on Sunday, October 20 at The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.
Horne is the chief photographer for Mid-Michigan NOW, the news operation of WEYI (NBC25), WSMH (FOX66) and WBSF (CW46). Horne’s stellar career began at the now defunct WFUM-TV in 1996. WFUM was a PBS affiliate that was owned by the University of Michigan and operated from the Flint campus. Horne joined the team at WEYI in 1999 and has remained at the station ever since.
“This is such great news,” said Kevin Dunaway, vice president and general manager of WEYI-WSMH-WBSF. “Mike has been the backbone of our news department through the years and we are extremely proud of his accomplishments.”
“This is a tremendous honor and testament to Mike’s hard work and dedication through the years,” said Karin Movesian, news director for Mid-Michigan NOW in Flint and News Channel 3 in Kalamazoo. “We are so proud of him,” she added.
The Silver Circle honors television professions with 25 or more years of service in performing, creative, technical or administrative roles within the industry or a peripheral area directly related to television, such as commercial production, journalism or education. NATAS also has a Gold Circle honoring those with 50 or more years of service to the industry.
A selection committee comprised of past Gold Circle and Silver Circle inductees and lead by NATAS-Michigan Vice President Neille Giffune selected the 2024 inductees. Horne is among five people selected as Silver Circle honorees. There was one Gold Circle honoree.
