My Adventures with Superman Just Introduced Another Major Batman Ally

In My Adventures with Superman Season 2, Metropolis’ link to Gotham City has been rekindled. Season 1 had Vicki Vale from the Gotham Gazette coming over to investigate Superman and the tech-crimes occurring. Season 2 now has her returning to expose stories about Amanda Waller’s Suicide Squad.

Shockingly, an impressed Vicki asked Lois to work with her. Lois is pondering heading over to Gotham because Vicki is her idol. It would also give her something the Daily Planet can’t: a chance at working for America’s top publisher. Now, Episode 5, “Most Eligible Superman,” adds another Gotham connection by bringing in a key Batman ally who inadvertently stirs up drama: Silver St. Cloud.

My Adventures with Superman Season 2 has a new spin on Toyman but it may not be as disastrous as first assumed for Jack Quaid’s Man of Steel.

Silver St. Cloud is one of Bruce Wayne’s most important allies. She started off as a socialite who was intrigued by Gotham’s party life. However, she got into philanthropy a lot more. This intersected with Bruce’s life, so it was only natural that they sparked a romance. In the 1970s, Detective Comics turned them into a power couple. However, she began to suspect he was hiding something. Bruce was obsessed with crime stories and disappeared at crucial times. Silver eventually pieced it all together when Batman fought Deadshot. She called out to The Dark Knight and he responded. The icing on the cake was Silver spotting that both Bruce Wayne and Batman had the same chin — an easy read given her intimate relationship with Bruce.

Silver cut Bruce loose, realizing she couldn’t keep worrying if he’d come home at night. This pushed the Caped Crusader over the edge. He got way too violent and aggressive with criminals, which Alfred had to help him work through. Bruce wondered if he could give up the cape and the cowl, but he chose the Bat-symbol over her. He just couldn’t let go of the mission. This drove a wedge between the couple, but Silver understood his job. Over time, they would be on and off, have flings, and then muse if they could have a future. Deep down, they knew they couldn’t. Bruce also moved on to a more kindred spirit with Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. Bruce knew he found a soulmate who understood the vigilante life more.

The conflict between Silver and Bruce was even addressed in the Batman/Elmer Fudd Special where Silver dumped Elmer because he was too obsessive, like Bruce. Outside the comics, Silver was actually supposed to be Bruce’s love interest in the 1989 Batman movie, but that plan got nixed. She did appear in the Gotham TV series as someone that the Order of St. Dumas sent to seduce Bruce and help break his empire. Luckily, she redeemed herself and helped young Bruce out. It riffed on the source material where she adored his heart and kind nature. Season 2 plays into this, but instead of Bruce, Silver is enamored with the wit, charm and warmth that Kal-El of Krypton exudes.

My Adventures with Superman gets a brand-new superpowered character to contend with courtesy of the series’ first tie-in comic book title.

Silver St. Cloud appears in a reality dating episode taping that Superman has been invited to. This is to determine Metropolis’ most eligible bachelor or bachelorette. As the press interviews the candidates, Clark Kent hits it off with Silver. He loves the charity work she is doing across Metropolis and environs. Both enjoy helping others, creating chemistry that even Cat Grant spots. Clark is enjoying the dynamic, forgetting about Lois for a second. It builds to Hank Henshaw lashing out while on stage. He doesn’t care that he’s on the panel as a contestant. He hates how people worship Kal-El.

Hank unleashes a profane rant that ends with him making it clear that “Earth is for Earthlings.” Silver, however, defends the Man of Steel. She reminds people how benevolent, considerate and selfless he can be. That’s the support Superman needed when Jimmy betrayed and abandoned him after a battle with Task Force X, which is angling for something bigger down the line. While Lois also sees Superman in this altruistic light, she doesn’t want other aliens coming over, driving a wedge between them. But through this endearing thread, it feels like Silver might be someone who would want to welcome aliens and has the funds to do so, too.

It’s easy to see her using her resources to go up against My Adventures with Superman’s Lex Luthor and his media campaign: the Superman Problem. Silver views Superman as a solution, tweaking the comics’ Silver, who was often on the fence about superheroism. She liked it as a concept, but was wary about the impact on her personal life. In the show, Silver is emboldened and pledges her support to heroes who want to put the citizens first. Again, this leaves a big impression on Clark and has Cat thinking Superman and Silver are hiding a secret romance.

My Adventures With Superman was a transformative look at the Man of Steel, and its first season had many impressive episodes.

Silver and Clark’s attraction leads to drama as Lois storms off backstage. Clark goes after her, but she admits she feels insecure. She isn’t a genius, nor does she have billions of dollars. Lois is envious of Silver, and there are other facets of her life she kept secret. She didn’t tell Clark how depressed she was that Sam (her father) had skipped town, or that Vicki offered her a job at the Gotham Gazette. Meanwhile, Clark admits he used the Kryptonian beacon to call My Adventures with Superman’s Supergirl over without Lois knowing.

There is a major breakdown in communication that has Lois thinking they are on two different paths. Cat drumming up her theory even has Lois asking if she could be worthy of being Superman’s girlfriend — a notion Cat laughs at and shoots down in the most condescending manner. Superman is heartbroken, asking if she is breaking up with him. Season 1 felt like they were in love, but Season 2 has given them conflict via differing philosophies about Earth and aliens. Sadly, Kara attacks Clark, angry that he is entertaining people on this “dissolute” planet. Supergirl transforms into war mode, beats him down and takes him away.

She is off to find her “father,” Michael Emerson’s Brainiac, so they can weaponize her cousin. But should Clark stop the villains and return home, there is a huge puzzle to solve. This brutal honesty by Lois indicates she needs time away from Metropolis to carve out a career that is not defined by her affinity for Superman. Lois and Clark may still try to keep the flame going, but Superman and Silver are on the same page in terms of a unified world. Lois has competition, in that sense, but it’s uncertain if she will want to fight for Clark.

She might well see Silver as a better partner for him; someone who can change the world outside of journalism. Hopefully, the Man of Steel gets home and tends to these matters. Open dialogue might be able to heal these wounds, if Superman doesn’t also think Silver is a viable option. Either way, Lois heading to Gotham or Silver doing more work in both cities could easily bring My Adventures with Superman’s Batman into play. Season 2 had an obscure picture of The Dark Knight at the Daily Planet, hinting this love triangle could shift into a more complex quadrangle. But no matter what, viewers will be rooting for Superman and Lois, as they are undoubtedly one of DC’s most iconic couples.
