This is my first diary and I don’t expect it to gain much attention, but I am livid about the current party division and this seems too important not to share (and not yet diaried).
As to my credibility: I am a largely invisible and silent but longterm Daily Kos reader (since 2008).
I know many have abandoned Twitter, but I continue to read it also — extensively — as I find it invaluable for news and info that never enters more mainstream venues. (As an aside, the trick imo to using Twitter effectively, if one is still open to reading there, is to make sure your feed is on “following” rather than “for you” and then to make sure you have cultivated your follows to good sources — I see virtually no Nazi and extremist stuff this way, and am continually getting a ton of good info from the site.)
Anyway, thanks to Twitter I found the following story, illustrated by the accompanying image in the header: Polymarket hires Nate Silver. Yes, that’s “Poblano” Nate Silver. And Polymarket’s funding comes from where, you ask?
“Founded in 2020, Polymarket has raised a total of $70 million from investors including Peter Thiel‘s Founders Fund (which was an early investor in CoinDesk’s parent company Bullish) and Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin.”
In conjunction with AOC’s very thought-provoking Instagram live from last night (diaried elsewhere here) and comments from many other smart people (on both kos and Twitter), I for one am 100% convinced that we truly are witnessing the undermining of the Democratic presidential ticket from multiple sources — some within the party and some without — and that it is primarily this endless noise that is the main, possibly only, thing doing damage.
Don’t trust the polls, and don’t trust the media. Just vote, and do whatever you can to GOTV!
