OCEANA COUNTY, MI — A severe storm ripped through West Michigan early Tuesday morning, uprooting trees and sending branches crashing down onto campsites at Silver Lake State Park in Mears.
The storm left thousands in West Michigan without power and 50% Muskegon County’s local roads impassable.

There were no injuries reported from storm damage on Tuesday, park manager Jody Stevenson said.
All major damages sustained were to private property and not park facilities, Stevenson said. The park remains open as clean up ensues.
Wind gusts were recorded at 49mph in Pentwater and 70 mph in Muskegon, according to the National Weather Service at Grand Rapids.

Photos posted on Facebook in the group Michigan Camping Weather and Traffic showed RV and tent campsites wrecked by large trees.
Photos show trees uprooted from the ground, in some cases laying over tents and coolers. In another photo, a tree limb has fallen onto an RV, splitting open the roof. MLive could not confirm if any campers were inside the tent or RV when the trees crashed.
