American Brooke Raboutout won silver in the Olympic women’s boulder and lead competition on Saturday with a final score of 156.

Raboutout, currently ranked No. 3 in the world for combined lead and bouldering, beat out Austria’s Jessica Pilz (147.4), who took home bronze, but fell short of Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret (168.5), who has now won back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the event.

It is the second medal in sport climbing for the U.S. in Paris after Sam Watson won bronze in the men’s speed event.

The 23-year-old Raboutout, who hails from Colorado, also competed in the Tokyo Olympics and finished fifth. She’s coming off a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships in bouldering and a gold medal at the 2023 IFSC Boulder World Cup in Hachioji, Japan.

In Paris, Raboutou finished third in the bouldering semifinal and tied for fourth in the lead semifinal. Her combined score of 155.8 put her in third place overall and helped her qualify for the final.

In the final, Raboutou followed up her bouldering score of 84 with a 72 in the lead, guaranteeing herself a spot on the podium. It was just a matter of how Pilz and Garnbret finished to determine which medal she was taking home.

Pilz had the second-best score in lead (88.1), but she had a big deficit to overcome after a 59.3 in the boulder.

Garnbret was the last competitor to go and needed a score of 72 to win gold. She surpassed that with an 84.1.
