Paula clocks a personal best to finish in silver position in Clare – sport


Athletics: There was significant Mayo interest, not to mention success, when almost 400 runners gathered to raced in the fourth and final leg of the Run Clare series. The event, held on Saturday, April 13, was the Kilkishen 10 mile. 

Mayo AC’s Paula Donnellan Walsh, a regular columnist in the sports pages of the Western People, finished second woman in a personal best time of 1:11.30. Paula finished behind race winner Shauna Moran who ran 1:07.48. 

The men’s race was won by Gavin Purcell in 1:03:40. Conditions were described by some finishers as challenging, breezy and hilly. Only nine of the 382 finishers came home in under 70 minutes.
