WILLIAMSBURG — Two Williamsburg businesses — Silver Hand Meadery and Williamsburg Winery — were awarded gold medals at the 2024 Virginia Governor’s Cup competition.
Described as one of the most stringent competitions in the United States, Virginia Governor’s Cup judges sampled more than 750 Virginia wines from across the Commonwealth.
The gold-winning meads from Silver Hand were Raspberry Passion and Virginia Tonight.
“We are humbled and grateful to receive golds for two of our flagship meads,” Silver Hand Meadery said in a post on its Facebook page. “Congratulations to our entire team on this tremendous accomplishment, especially Meadmaker extraordinaire, Dr. Sam Straight, and his production team.”
It also earned silver medals for two seasonal releases, Lemon Song and Lavender Hill.
Meanwhile, Williamsburg Winery was awarded a gold for its 2019 Trianon. In addition, it received 11 Silver Medals in the competition.
“It’s an honor to be a part of such a prestigious event and we are so proud of our team,” the winery said on its Facebook page.
