Chef Zach Pollack announced that his Silver Lake pasta spot Alimento will close on September 7, 2024. Alimento opened a decade ago on Silver Lake Boulevard near Effie Street. In a July 16 Instagram post, Pollack noted the pandemic, strikes, and rising costs as contributing factors to Alimento’s closure.
One glance at the late Jonathan Gold’s 2014 Los Angeles Times review of Alimento reads like a time capsule for Los Angeles and Silver Lake. The longtime concert venue Spaceland closed in 2010, and L&E Oyster Bar debuted in 2012, which hastened the changes happening on this busy stretch of Silver Lake Boulevard and throughout the area. Gold also raved about Pollack’s fusilli with clams and bagna cauda, and described the food as “modest but clever.”
Pollack hinted at something new in an Instagram post noting the following: “If that day comes and goes and you find yourself hankering for our food, there is hope on the horizon, the western horizon, to be specific.” Read Pollack’s full Instagram post below.
