Silver Line Project Steams Ahead

Dallas Area Rapid Transit began testing its new trains for its Silver Line project on Sunday.

The testing will commence each Sunday for several weeks on portions of the Trinity Railway Express path. Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is partnering with Trinity Metro to train operators and the systems of its vehicles, per KERA.

The tests are the first time the new Silver Line trains have a chance to run. During testing, which will occur from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., passengers will not be permitted aboard the trains, reported Fox 4 KDFW.

Vice President of Silver Line Maintenance and Operation, Anthony Fuller, said the testing is being done to “ensure that all the systems are operating as they should while running, stopping, and starting on the tracks,” per Railway Age.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Silver Line trains will run from Shiloh Road in Plano to the DFW International Airport. The 26-mile route will service multiple stops, such as the University of Texas at Dallas, Addison, and Cypress Waters.

“It’s exciting for everyone associated with this project because this means we’re that much closer to opening for revenue service and having passengers on these new trains,” added Fuller, per KERA.

According to DART, the Silver Line project is making significant strides, with over 60% of the work already completed. Complete end-to-end testing is slated for 2025, with revenue service planned as early as late 2025.
