He was nabbed on Saturday evening when he was travelling in a bus. The police said that Das was an expert in burgling temples and has cases registered against him across the country.“Das has several cases of temple thefts registered against him in different states. The accused had decided to target ISKCON Temple in Vadodara and even stayed in the city some days ago. He visited the temple twice, went around the premises, observed the security guards and the doors. After working out the plan, Das sneaked into the temple on the night of April 11. He headed straight for the sanctum and stole the silver objects kept near the god’s idols before exiting from the gate. The police said that the temple’s CCTVs had been not working for the last few days and there was a bit of a security lapse too.“We gathered CCTV footage of the adjacent areas and got clues about the accused. After committing the burglary, Das left for Surat and then headed for Nagpur in a bus. We immediately informed the Nagpur police who intercepted the bus and caught him. All the silver objects he stole have been recovered. He will now be handed over to the Gotri police,” Ratada added.
