Top rare antique silver collection to be auctioned in Moreton

Moreton auctioneers, Kinghams, have said they are glad to be in charge of the sale of Peter Cameron’s collection, which is happening on Monday 9 and Tuesday, June 10.

Cameron has spent 52 years as a specialist in the field, and started researching and dealing in items way back in 1974.

The auction will consist of more than 800 lots and will take place at Kinghams’ base in Moreton.

From the 1600s to the present day—from England, Europe and other far-off locations such as Asia and Africa—the collection covers centuries and continents.

Associate director and silver specialist Matthew Lafite gives his seal of approval to the collection.

Mr Lafite said: “In the world of antique silver, the name Peter Cameron is synonymous with quality, scholarship, and expertise.

“Peter has a well-earned reputation as a true expert with exacting standards.

“This collection contains some of the finest pieces of silver encountered outside of a museum.

“We are delighted to be entrusted with handling a collection of this calibre”.

Pieces by the Royal Goldsmiths of Paul Storr, Robert Garrard, along with creators like Dr Christopher Dresser, and Hukin and Heath, will also be up for grabs.

Highlights include a late Victorian silver-mounted claret jug with a glass snake handle, listed in the Hukin and Heath catalogue in the 1890s as priced at £5 4s.

A unique ‘Huntsman’ inkwell from 1879, believed to be one-of-a-kind, and an extremely rare Taunton silver beaker circa 1675, will also go up for sale.

For more information, the auctioneers can be contacted on 01608 695695 or through its website (www.kinghamsauctioneers.com).
