Trinidad and Tobago cyclist Makaira Wallace took the silver medal in the women’s 500m at the UCI Junior Track World Championships in China.
The 18-year-old finished second behind Stefany Cuadrado of Colombia in the event on Saturday at Luoyang, China.
Home favorite Shuyan Luo took the bronze medal.
Wallace also competed in the women’s sprint, finishing eighth overall.
She set a new national junior record of 10.074 in the Flying 200.
Cuadrado also took the gold medal in the event.
Meanwhile, endurance Jadian Neaves finished in eighth place in the Omnium event, the highest-ever placing for a TT athlete at the championship.
Matijs Van Strijthem of Belgium took the gold medal with Ashlin Barry of the USA and Alexander Hewes of Australia taking silver and bronze respectively.
In the men’s junior sprint, TT cyclists Syndel Samaroo and Jelani Nedd finished 12th and 19th respectively.
Tate Ryan of Australia won gold, Norasetthada Bunma of Thailand took silver, while Taeho Choi of South Korea claimed the bronze medal.
