Blantyre based Super League heavyweights Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will lock horns with their Lilongwe counterparts, Silver Strikers as part of celebrating Malawi’s father and founder, Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
The former Malawi leader will be celebrated on Tuesday at a stadium named after his name in Blantyre where President Lazarus Chakwera will lead prayers and all the activities.
The battle of the two giants has been confirmed by Football Association of Malawi competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka in a statement talking about the Flames provisional squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
“During the camp, players will be allowed to return to their respective clubs to fulfil club assignments where necessary. Wanderers and Silver Strikers players will join the camp later due to club engagements as the play in a Kamuzu Day celebrations ceremonial match,” reads the statement in part.
In the 2024 football calendar, the two teams are yet to play each other in any competition.
The Central Bankers are currently leading the elite league with 16 points from 6 outings while the Nomads are lying third with 12 points from the same number of games thus far.
