Louis Tomlinson has officially graduated from teenage heartthrob to silver fox.
The former One Direction star, 32, shocked fans at Glastonbury over the weekend when he showed off greying hair in place of his usually brown locks.
In a video posted to TikTok, Tomlinson was captured bringing a TV to the festival to broadcast that night’s England football game. But it was his salt and pepper hairdo that really caught our attention.
Perfectly summarising our feelings about the new look, one fan wrote on X, “I was NOT prepared to see Louis Tomlinson with grey hair !!?!??!?! I know we are all getting older but my teen heart is sobbing.”
Of course, it’s only natural that the singer’s appearance has changed a little since he was catapulted to fame as a member of 1D. But Tomlinson’s new ‘look ‘do is also a sobering reminder that it’s been nearly 15 years since the band was first formed – and nearly a decade since they split. So what has our favourite former boyband been up to since then? Below, catch up with Louis, Harry, Zayn, Niall and Liam, with everything One Direction are doing in 2024.
Louis Tomlinson
Tomlinson’s life post-One Direction took off with a great start, with the singer welcoming his son, Freddie, with ex Briana Jungwirth in 2016.
In addition to juggling parenthood, Tomlinson has also forged a pretty successful solo career, releasing singles “Back to You” and “Just Like You” in 2017, before launching his first solo album, Walls, in 2020. In November 2022, he dropped his second album, Faith in the Future, and also announced an accompanying world tour which is currently underway.
But Tomlinson’s personal life hasn’t been without hardship. In December 2016, his mum Johannah Deakin died of leukaemia, aged just 43. And in 2019, his 18-year-old sister Felicite died of an accidental drug overdose.
Harry Styles
Arguably the most famous One Direction alum, Harry Styles’ career has only grown stronger since departing the band. Among his most notable achievements are his three solo albums, Harry Styles, Fine Line, and Harry’s House, which earned him two Grammys in 2023 for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year. Outside of music, Styles has also dabbled in acting, with roles in blockbusters like Dunkirk and Don’t Worry Darling.
He’s also been linked to a string of notable names, including Kendall Jenner, Olivia Wilde and, until recently, Taylor Russell.
Niall Horan
Niall Horan’s solo career began with his hit singles, ‘This Town’ and ‘Slow Hands,’ which both came courtesy of his 2017 album, Flicker. In 2020, he released his second studio album, Heartbreak Weather, and in 2023, his third, The Show. In the midst of this, he shared his musical expertise as a judge on the US version of The Voice in seasons 23 and 24, before leaving to focus on his own music.
Horan is also the only former 1D member in a relationship, having been dating fashion buyer Amelia Woolley since 2020. While the pair keep their romance relatively private, they have made a few public appearances over the years, including a PDA-filled holiday to Mexico in early 2022.
Zayn Malik
Zayn Malik’s love life has been the source of many headlines since leaving One Direction.
Shortly before the band split, Zayn experienced a breakup in his personal life, when he and fiancée Perrie Edwards called off their very public relationship. But not long after, Zayn found himself in an equally high-profile pairing, this time with model Gigi Hadid. In September 2020, the couple welcomed a daughter, Khai Hadid Malik, however a year later, the pair ended their relationship, after Zayn had an alleged argument with Gigi’s mum, Yolanda Hadid.
Professionally, Malik has had plenty of success post-1D. In 2016, he released his debut studio album Mind of Mine, which housed hit singles ‘Pillowtalk’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.’ He went on to release his second album, Icarus Falls, in 2018, and Nobody Is Listening in 2021.
Liam Payne
Liam Payne is another band member who became a father shortly after One Direction drew to a close: in 2016, he and then-girlfriend Cheryl Cole welcomed their son, Bear. In the years since, Payne has dabbled in a solo music career, releasing ‘Strip That Down’ in 2017, followed by his debut solo album, LP1 in 2019.
