CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard student-athletes competed in Europe this weekend, taking part in international junior tournaments.
The standout Crimson performance of the weekend took place in Zagreb, Croatia, as first-year Daniel Zhang captured a silver medal at the Junior Men’s Foil World Cup. The Belmont, Mass. native currently ranks fourth in the International Fencing Federation’s Junior Men’s Foil world rankings.
In Basel, Switzerland, first-year Henry Lawson impressed with a 12th placing showing at the Junior Men’s Epee World Cup. Lawson was just one of four American fencers in the top-20 at the Junior Men’s Epee World Cup.
In the team portion of the Junior Men’s Epee World Cup, Lawson pushed the United States team to silver in Basel.
The Junior Women’s Epee World Cup took place in Tbilisi, Georgia, as first-year Isabella Chin was Harvard’s lone representative at the international competition. Chin recorded a 40th place finish at the Junior Women’s Epee World Cup.
A pair of sophomore Harvard fencers flew to Plovdiv, Bulgaria for the Junior Saber World Cup. In the women’s bracket, Zoe Kim finished in 43rd place while Matthew Linsky placed in 117th in the men’s tournament.
Harvard returns to collegiate competition this weekend, as the Crimson look to capture some hardware at the 2024 Ivy League Fencing Championships on Saturday, Feb. 10 and Sunday, Feb. 11.
