BROOKINGS, S.D. — The New Ulm VFW Silver baseball team battled back to take down West Central (Sioux Falls) 5-3 on Friday in its first game of the Brookings Tournament.

Silver then shut out Brookings 8-0 to end the day.

West Central led 3-1 before Silver scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.

Colin Anderson got the complete-game win against West Central, giving up one earned run on three hits while striking out seven. Silver had five hits in the game but stole eight bases with Graham Glaser and Caleb Forstner each stealing two.

Forstner got the five-inning complete-game shutout against Brookings. Ben Alfred led Silver at the plate with a double and three RBIs, while Jaxon Buegler had two hits and two runs scored.

Silver continues tournament action Saturday.

Sartell 10, VFW Gold 6

ST. CLOUD — The New Ulm VFW Gold baseball team dropped its first game of the St. Cloud Tournament on Friday, falling to Sartell 10-6 at Dick Putz Field.

Zach Riederer was 3 for 3 with three runs scored to lead New Ulm, while Lucas Suess was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Kaden Larson was 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Levi Franta had a hit and two RBIs.

Franta took the loss in four innings of work, giving up seven hits and three walks for three earned runs while fanning two. Kaden Peterson pitched three innings of relief and gave up three runs while striking out two.

The tournament continues Saturday.

Harrisburg 18,

Sleepy Eye 17

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Harrisburg held off Sleepy Eye VFW on Friday with an 18-17 win in the Mid-Summer Classic tournament.

Sleepy Eye trailed 18-8 at one point and had the bases loaded in the final inning, but Harrisburg held on.

Cody Schultz was 4 for 4 with a triple, a double and four runs scored, while Talan Helget was 3 for 3 with a double, four RBIs and four runs scored. George Schwint was 2 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored also for Sleepy Eye, while Brandon Braulick was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Cole Eckstein was 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Tate Mathiowetz took the loss for Sleepy Eye in 2/3 innings of work, giving up seven unearned runs.

The tournament continues Saturday.

Junior Legion baseball

Sleepy Eye 11,

Watertown 3

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Sleepy Eye Junior Legion baseball team cruised to an 11-3 win over the Watertown Red Sox 16U team on Friday in the Mid-Summer Classic tournament.

Austin Uecker was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored for Sleepy Eye, while Kaleb Butenhoff was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Brandon Schmitz earned the run in two innings of relief, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk while fanning four.

The tournament continues Saturday.
