Barclays promotes Wei to sole head of leveraged finance globally

Barclays has promoted a long-serving dealmaker to lead its leveraged finance unit globally.

Wei, who has led Barclays leveraged finance unit in Emea, was previously co-global head alongside of the unit Tom Blouin, a role she took in April last year, FN reported. She will report into Travis Barnes and Tom Johnson, global co-heads of capital markets at Barclays.

“Through her leadership of the Emea franchise, Na installed a disciplined focus on delivering strategic capital to our most important clients,” said Johnson. “We firmly believe that she can replicate this mindset across our global business, putting us in the strongest possible position to further increase our market share in the US and globally.”

Wei has long led Barclays relationship with Blackburn-based billionaire brothers, Mohsin and Zuber Issa, who together with private equity firm TDR Capital, unveiled a £6.8bn bid to acquire grocery chain Asda in 2021. She has been involved with every deal the Issa brothers have completed since 2017, raising more than $10bn in financing.

She joined Barclays from Deutsche Bank in 2007.
