Bobby Jain is continuing to fill out his roster ahead of the expected July launch of his multi-manager hedge fund Jain Global. He’s just added another portfolio manager.
Jeff Bersh is said to be joining Jain Global from Venor Capital, according to people familiar with the matter. Previously, he was the co-CIO at Venor, the investment fund he cofounded in 2005. Before that he traded distressed debt at Credit Suisse — overlapping with Jain — and also worked stints at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Bear Stearns.
A spokesman for Jain Global declined to comment.
Jain Global is aiming to launch this summer with as much as $6 billion in investor capital, which would make it one of the largest-ever hedge fund startups.
Competition for both capital and investment talent has been fierce as the multi-manager hedge fund space has grown.
Jain, a long-time exec at Millennium Management and Credit Suisse, has told investors he’s planning to trade fundamental equities, equity arbitrage, macro, credit, commodities, and systematic strategies.
