Midland College Gold team wins Waco River Classic

WACO – The Midland College Gold team swept the first three spots in the medalist standings to win the Waco River Classic Tournament with a team score of 284-285-278—847 on Tuesday at Bear Ridge Golf Club.

Freshman Max Cavazos, of MC Gold, won the medalist title with a score of 70-70-69—209 in his second-ever collegiate tournament.

MC Gold sophomore Kyle Kistensamy finished second (69-70-70—209), while Midland Christian grad and MC Gold sophomore Richman Houston tied for third (69-72-69—210).

New Mexico Junior College came in second (288-284-286—858) and the Midland College Green team finished third (293-290-282—865).

The MC Green team was led by sophomore Chris Wardrup, who finished tied for fifth (70-73-69—212).

The Chaps, who are ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA Division I poll, have won their first two tournaments that they’ve competed in this fall, as they also won the Andrews Country Club College Tournament earlier this month.

MC will compete in the NJCAA Division I National Preview Tournament, Sept. 27-28 in Newton, Kansas.
