FTV Capital invests in ZEMA Global Data

FTV Capital has made a growth equity investment in ZEMA Global Data, a provider of enterprise data management and analytics for the commodity and energy sectors. The investment aims to support ZEMA’s global expansion and product development as demand for complex data and analytics grows in the energy transition.

The company, founded in Vancouver in 1995, was formerly known as ZE PowerGroup and has rebranded as ZEMA Global Data to reflect its position in the global energy and commodities market. ZEMA diverse client base also includes financial firms, municipal governments and several Fortune 500 companies.

FTV Capital representatives Robert Anderson, Brent Fierro and Payam Vadi have joined ZEMA’s board of directors alongside existing members. Additionally, Andrea Remyn Stone has been appointed as ZEMA’s new CEO. Stone previously led the data and analytics division at the London Stock Exchange Group, in addition to holding leadership roles at organizations including Bloomberg and S&P Global. ZEMA’s founder, Dr. Zak El-Ramly, will transition to the role of chairman and continue to work with Stone on the company’s growth strategy.

Robert Anderson, partner at FTV Capital, said, “As the global energy transition accelerates, there is a growing demand for solutions like ZEMA’s.” He expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Stone and the ZEMA management team to expand the business.

FTV Capital, founded in 1998, is a sector-focused growth equity investment firm that has raised $6.2 billion. The firm specializes in investments across enterprise technology and services, financial services, and payments and transaction processing sectors.

The prestigious HEC Paris-Dow Jones Growth Capital Performance Ranking recently listed FTV as No. 6 out of over 106 growth capital firms based on a methodology to calculate the aggregate performance of a PE firm based on different performance measures for all the funds managed by the firm. And in another notable development for FTV, Blackstone GP Stakes made a minority investment of undisclosed value in the firm in May 2023.

FTV Capital has invested in over 140 portfolio companies and has offices in San Francisco, New York, Connecticut and  London — its newest outpost, launched last month as Richard Earnshaw joined the firm from Hg Capital to lead and grow the team while deepening FTV’s investment efforts across Europe.

Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed. D.A. Davidson served as the exclusive strategic and financial advisor to ZEMA Global Data.
