Omni Federal gets new private equity backer

Omni Federal, a software integrator for several defense agencies, has received financial backing from private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners to help shape the contractor’s next phase of its strategy.

Founded in 2017, Omni employs approximately 250 people that develop the company’s mission and enterprise software products for use by military operators and intelligence specialists among others.

With MDP’s support, Omni will look to further scale out its digital delivery posture and add more resources for its organic and inorganic growth pursuits. Terms of the transaction announced Thursday were not disclosed.

Omni’s receipt of the investment follows its capture of one of 20 positions on a potential seven-year, $1 billion software development contract vehicle with Space Force.

The company also touts a network of labs and Small Business Innovation Research centers across areas such as data mesh, data fabric, secure data access, intelligent automation, user experience monitoring and secure connectivity.

“Omni is on a mission to reimagine and modernize our country’s vast federal legacy mission systems, which directly tie to the most significant challenges facing our nation,” Omni co-founder and chief executive Parag Thakker said in a release. “As we continue to invest in innovation and scaling, while pursuing acquisition opportunities to expand our solution offerings to drive further innovation in the DoD and IC, we’re pleased to welcome our new partners at MDP.”

Omni developed out of the Defense Department’s software factory ecosystem and also leans on commercial technology to develop the solutions for government use, the company said.

MDP’s backing of Omni represents the PE firm’s fifth such in the government market alongside AEVEX Aerospace, LinQuest Corp., T2S Solutions and Unison.

KippsDeSanto & Co. acted as financial adviser to Omni, whose legal counsel was both Jenner & Block LLP and McDonald Hopkins LLC provided legal counsel. Baird worked as financial adviser to MDP, whose legal counsel was Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Crowell & Moring LLP.
