Paul Weiss Private Equity Partner Joins Gibson Dunn in New York


Gibson Dunn & Crutcher is picking up Paul Weiss partner Brian Scrivani in New York as it expands its private equity and mergers and acquisitions practices.

Scrivani became a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in 2018. He has worked with clients on leveraged buyouts and other private equity transactions, public company acquisitions, sales and divestitures.

“His addition further solidifies our standing as a destination PE practice,” Richard Birns, co-chair of Gibson Dunn’s private equity practice group said in a statement Monday.

Scrivani advised Apollo Global Management on transactions including a $5.2 billion take-private of Arconic Corp. and a majority acquisition of ABC Technologies Holdings Inc. He also advised Searchlight Capital Partners, alongside Rêv Worldwide Inc. in its $1 billion acquisition of Netspend from Global Payments.

He was part of the Paul Weiss team that represented Qualcomm Inc. in its $47 billion acquisition of NXP Semiconductors NV in 2016 and its successful defense against Broadcom Inc.’s $130 billion unsolicited offer in 2017. The former Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom lawyer also previously advised Twenty-First Century Fox in the spin-off of News Corporation, its media, entertainment and publishing businesses.

“The firm’s investment in the M&A and private equity space, as well as the practices that are critical to the future of the addressable market, allows us to provide unparalleled support to clients,” Scrivani said in the statement.
