SEOUL, August 13 (AJU PRESS) – Q Capital Partners, a private equity firm, has signed a deal to acquire a controlling stake in Chorokbaem Media, a drama and animation production company.
Chorokbaem, known for popular dramas such as “My Mister,” “All In” and “The Slave Hunters,” said in a regulatory filing Tuesday that Q Capital agreed to purchase about 9.617 million shares for 180 billion won ($137 million).
Upon completion of the transaction, expected on Nov. 29, Q Capital will become the largest shareholder with a 39.33 percent stake.
The private equity fund has invested in cultural content, including popular films such as the Academy Award-winning “Parasite,” “Ashfall” and “Exit.”
Chorokbaem’s stock trading was suspended in June 2023 after then-chairman Won Young-sik was investigated in a stock manipulation case involving an affiliate of the cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb. Won is currently undergoing a court trial.
The Korea Exchange later decided to delist the company, but Chorokbaem appealed the decision.
