Private equity remains ‘largest driver’ of private market fundraising – Barclays

The market share of private equity within private market capital raising topped 50% for the first time last year, a new Barclays Private Bank report showed.

It is the fourth consecutive year in which the asset class has been favoured by investors.

According to the report, based on Pitchbook data, global private markets raised $3.7tn (R65.3tn) in 2024 – equal to roughly nine times South Africa’s GDP. It is estimated that the stock of global private wealth has reached between $140tn (R2,476tn) and $150tn (R2,653tn) by the end of last year, according to the Barclays report.
