A R1.4-billion private equity deal could help catapult the Springboks into sports stardom in countries where their brand has room to grow – with a resulting rise in advertising, merchandising and sales that fills SA Rugby’s coffers, says a corporate finance and valuation expert.
However, SA Rugby Union (SARU) bosses need to be extremely careful about who they decide to partner with and how they use the funds, says Johann de Lange, the managing director of Worth.Business.
“They are going to have to have a very clear plan about what they want to do with the funds,” he said.
