Here’s a new hotel opening that I just stumbled upon. This is probably more interesting to me than the average person, but I’ll cover it anyway…
Hyatt Unbound Collection comes to Mainz, Germany
As I often explain, I like to keep tabs on the German hotel market. My whole family is from Germany, and most of my relatives still live there, so I like to visit whenever I can. Fortunately Hyatt options in the Frankfurt area are continuing to improve — in early 2025, we’ll see the opening of Kennedy 89 Hotel Frankfurt, a Hyatt Unbound Collection property.
That’s not the only new hotel opening in the area that’s part of Hyatt Unbound Collection, though. Brunfels Hotel Mainz is expected to open on July 15, 2024, and will also be part of Hyatt Unbound Collection. For those not familiar with Mainz, this is a pretty charming city not far from Frankfurt, and it’s also just a quick train ride away from Frankfurt Airport (FRA). So if you just have a night at Frankfurt Airport, this is a nice alternative to going into Frankfurt.
Brunfels Hotel Mainz actually represents the conversion of an existing hotel. This is the former 127-room Hilton Mainz City, which closed in early 2023, and has undergone an extensive renovation (it was one of two Hiltons in Mainz, so perhaps that partly explains the rebranding). It’s reopening as a much more charming property, from the looks of it.
Rooms are definitely on the compact side, unsurprisingly. Base rooms are 26 square meters (280 square feet), while junior suites are 33 square meters (355 square feet).
The hotel will have Brunfels Restaurant, an all-day dining restaurant, plus Brunfels Bar, featuring a beautiful patio.
For those looking for a bit more generic of a Hyatt property, there’s also the Hyatt Regency Mainz, which is perfectly fine, but I think this hotel looks a bit cuter.
Brunfels Hotel Mainz rates & points availability
What are rates like at Brunfels Hotel Mainz, if paying cash or redeeming points?
For those redeeming points, this will be a Category 3 World of Hyatt property, meaning a free night redemption in a standard room will cost 9,000-15,000 points per night. Meanwhile a free night redemption in a standard suite will cost 17,000-23,000 points per night.
As far as cash rates go, they vary significantly based on the day of week and time of year, and seem to start in the range of €150-250 per night.
Bottom line
Another Hyatt Unbound Collection property is opening in Germany, in the form of Brunfels Hotel Mainz. This is the former Hilton Mainz City, which has undergone a significant renovation. The hotel looks pretty, and I hope to check this out on one of my upcoming trips through Frankfurt.
Anyone else plan to check out Brunfels Hotel Mainz?
