Escape To The Country couple ‘blown away’ by unique ‘upside down’ property converted from a garage – but would you pay £500k for it?

A couple on Escape To The Country were ‘blown away’ by a unique property that was converted from a garage.

Tony and Sharon featured on Monday’s episode of the BBC show hosted by Jules Hudson, 55.

They wanted to find a property near the Yorkshire Dales and turned to the show for help with a budget of £500,000.

Both Tony and Sharon had recently retired and dreamt of being able to walk their dog in the picturesque countryside.

One of the houses Jules presented to the couple was a stone barn conversion located within the rolling hills of the National Park in Buckden.

The stunning build had three bedrooms, all on the ground floor of the property with the upstairs leading to the kitchen, dining and living area.

It boasted a conservatory-style room with impressive views of the Dales and Sharon gushed, ‘Really, I am blown away!’

‘The outside has come in. You are sitting here, you are in the hills. I did wonder whether the downsize would be difficult, but to be honest, I want to make it happen, because of this,’ she added.

The intriguing home was priced just short of the couple’s budget at £495,000.

Sharon said: ‘This house is tremendous it’s beautifully decorated and it’s bringing the outdoors in.’

While husband Tony called it a ‘fantastic property’.

It comes after Jules completed a show first in a landmark moment last year.

Kicking off the episode, he shared his excitement to be in Scotland’s stunning Highlands.

He said: ‘Today, we’re in Caithness in Scotland’s magnificent Highlands. A land of glistening Lochs and vast wilderness.

‘This vast scenery is a part of everyday life to those who call it home.

‘I have never been this far north in the UK; this is a part of Scotland I’ve never seen before and I cannot wait to see what it has to offer and let’s be honest, when you look around, it’s simple to see why it’s so tantalising.’

Jules continued: ‘There is no one here, if you’re thinking about splendid isolation, this has got it.

‘So let’s now meet today’s buyers who are hoping to make their very own Scottish escape.

‘When I say escape, think of that in bold and underlined twice, because quite frankly, short of buying their own island, they are undertaking one of the most extreme escapes I’ve ever seen.

‘And I’m not using the term “escape” lightly take it as bold and underlined twice over, because short of buying their own island, this couple’s plan is one of the most extreme escapes I’ve ever witnessed.’

The episode saw couple Sam and James who were looking to move up north from their current home in Bromyard, Herefordshire.

Escape to the Country airs weekdays on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer.
