In October, the airport announced it had applied for permission to increase the number of night flights as it aimed to handle 18 million passengers a year by 2033, which was approved in January.
Al Titterington, terminal operations director, said the airport had forecasted 13.8 million passengers passing through this year.
Money for the projects are part of the airport’s £100m capital spend until 2033.
Mr Titterington said: “We want to ensure we provide the best possible customer service.
“By investing in these areas, we can adequately cater for the increase in customers and ensure we are on our way to hit our 13.8 million target this year.”
