BRO opens 75 infrastructure projects worth Rs 2K crore

A total of 75 infrastructure projects by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were formally inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday. These projects, costing Rs 2,236 crore, include 22 roads, 51 bridges and two other projects. The minister virtually inaugurated the projects during an event at the Sukhna Military Station near Darjeeling, West Bengal.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the projects span across 11 states and Union Territories. Nineteen are in Jammu & Kashmir, 18 in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Ladakh, nine in Uttarakhand, six in Sikkim, five in Himachal Pradesh and two each in West Bengal and Rajasthan. Additionally, Nagaland, Mizoram and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands each have one project.

With the inauguration of these 75 projects, the BRO — under the Ministry of Defence — has completed a total of 111 infrastructure projects in 2024, with an overall cost of Rs 3,751 crore. This includes the advanced Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year. Last year, 125 BRO infrastructure projects were dedicated to the nation, costing Rs 3,611 crore.

Rajnath Singh highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening border infrastructure.
