Telecoms infrastructure firm edotco announced Friday it has signed a collaborative agreement with electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions provider ChargeSini to deploy EV charging infrastructure across Malaysia.
Under the agreement, edotco and ChargeSini plan to install EV charging stations at over 200 potential in-building locations and poles nationwide in the next two years by leveraging edotco’s existing infrastructure footprint.
Edotco says it will leverage its telecoms infrastructure experience to provide power connectivity and securing parking bays at selected sites, which it says will enable seamless integration of EV charging stations into its existing infrastructure.
The deployment will initially focus on strategic building locations to promote sustainable urban mobility. Later, ChargeSini plans to make use of edotco’s existing outdoor ‘smart poles’ in city centres across Malaysia to extend the reach of EV charging to diverse markets.
Edotco’s smart poles are street furniture designed to provide 4G/5G coverage with a minimal footprint, The poles are also designed to support smart-city use cases such as free Wi-Fi, waste management, real-time air quality monitoring, security surveillance, LED lighting and digital signage. With the ChargeSini deal, edotco is adding EV charging stations to that list.
Gayan Koralage, director of Malaysia Business at edotco Group, said the partnership not only means an extra adjacent revenue stream edotco, but also aligns with the government’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030, which aiming to install 10,000 public EV charging stations by 2025.
“With over 13,000 electric vehicles already on Malaysian roads, we are gearing up for an exponential increase to half a million by 2025,” he said in a statement. “Our infrastructures, readily available at strategic locations such as malls, airports, hospitals, universities, and roadside smart poles, seamlessly integrate with and bolster the growing EV ecosystem.”
According to data from Agmo DataHub, ChargeSini is currently the second largest EV charging provider in Malaysia in terms of EV plug count, having rolled out 599 charging ports to date.
