Accelerating infrastructure projects on Uzbekistan’s railways is becoming a key element of the country’s development strategy, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
One significant achievement has been the opening of the automobile-railway bridge over the Amu Darya River.
This 423-meter bridge has connected the Amu Darya district to the country’s railway network, significantly improving the region’s transportation accessibility.
The new bridge, part of the Shavkat-Karauzyak railway line, accommodates up to 12,000 vehicles and 24 pairs of trains per day, reducing the route length by 180 km and cargo delivery time to 6 hours.
This will significantly increase the annual freight transport volume and reduce transportation costs, facilitating the formation of new routes in communication with neighboring countries.
President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, emphasized the importance of completing the electrification of several railway lines in the coming years.
This includes the Bukhara-Urgench-Khiva and Miskin-Nukus lines, which will enable the operation of high-speed trains and increase passenger flow by 30 percent.
Such steps contribute to the modernization of the country’s transportation infrastructure and provide more comfortable conditions for passengers.
An important stage of development is cooperation with Afghanistan.
The start of restoration work on the Hairatan-Mazar-i-Sharif railway line indicates both countries’ desire to develop economic ties and strengthen regional integration.
This project, supported by Pakistan and with the participation of the Asian Development Bank, demonstrates the countries’ readiness for joint development of transportation infrastructure, contributing to the stability and prosperity of the entire region.
Such initiatives in Uzbekistan’s railway transportation not only improve the country’s economic potential but also promote integration and cooperation in Central Asia.
They open up new prospects for regional development and contribute to the strengthening of international partnerships.
