Staffordshire County Council has been allocated nearly £16 million from government.
Money from the government’s Local Transport Grant will used to improve the county’s transport network, ensuring safer and more accessible journeys for all residents.
The investment plan covers a range of projects aimed at improving road conditions, traffic management, and sustainable transport options. These include:
- £5 million towards potholes and patching repairs
- £3.2 million towards new major maintenance schemes across the county
- Nearly £3 million towards preventative maintenance schemes and surface dressing
- £1.2 million in bridge structures, including the completion of maintenance works on Branston Bridge and a feasibility study for a new bridge
- Nearly £1 million for pavement preventative treatments
- Nearly £1 million for drainage repairs and improvements
Darryl Eyers, Staffordshire County Council’s Director for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills said:
“This one-off additional funding will help us build on the extra investment made by the county council into road maintenance. It means that we can continue to fix more roads, deal with drainage issues, and extend our preventative maintenance programme, which is essential to prolonging the life of the county’s roads.
“In addition to improving road conditions, the investment will support the council’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and achieving a net zero transport system.”
