New infrastructure installed in Watford to promote active commuting

This includes the final part of the improvement works on the bridle path, from St Albans Road to Watford Junction Station.

This path now has anti-skid surfacing on the steps and a “cycle tray”.

The finishes are meant to make the path more accessible and safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

Last year, the path was also refurbished with new street furniture, better lighting, a resurfacing job, and improved crossings.

The improvements have been made by Watford Borough Council and mayor Peter Taylor said: “The completion of these projects represents our ongoing work to improving Watford’s infrastructure for both cyclists and pedestrians.

“These improvements will not only increase safety and accessibility, but also encourage more residents to choose active and sustainable modes of transportation.”

Five new cycle repair stations have also been installed in Watford to assist cyclists.

These are situated at Met Station, Cassiobury Park Avenue, Cassiobury Park car park, Vicarage Road precinct, and King George V Playing Fields.

These stations are equipped with essential tools for minor repairs.

Councillor Ian Stotesbury, Watford’s portfolio holder for transport and sustainability, said: “These improvements are part of our wider strategy to support active travel in Watford.

“By making cycling and walking more accessible and safer, we are not only promoting healthier lifestyles but also reducing traffic congestion and environmental impact.”
