Five road and railway infrastructure projects have received recommendations for approval under the PM GatiShakti initiative, as announced by the commerce and industry ministry on Friday. These projects underwent assessment in the 65th Network Planning Group (NPG) meeting.
“The NPG examined the projects from the perspective of integrated planning based on the PM GatiShakti principles. The project details were examined based on the planning/mapping on PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP),” it said.
The evaluated projects encompass highway developments in Goa, Meghalaya, and Assam; the construction of a rail-over-rail bulb line in Bihar; and urban metro transit projects in Bengaluru and Delhi/NCR.
The inter-ministerial NPG convenes bi-weekly to assess infrastructure projects, ensuring multi-modality, synchronization of efforts, and comprehensive development in and around the project locations.
Launched to create integrated infrastructure and reduce logistics costs, the PM GatiShakti initiative channels all logistics and connectivity projects with investments exceeding Rs 500 crore through the NPG.
Approval from the NPG is a required before clearance by the Public Investment Board (PIB) or the Department of Expenditure under the finance ministry. The majority of projects recommended by the group are linked to roads, railways, and urban development.
