In a significant escalation across the Line of Control (LoC), Pakistan has carried out a series of coordinated attacks not just on Indian military establishments but also on civilian infrastructure—an act described by the Indian Armed Forces as “deplorable and cowardly.” According to Colonel Sofia Qureshi, who addressed the media on Saturday, May 10, Pakistan employed unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAFs), loitering munitions, long-range weapons, and fighter aircraft in an attempt to cripple both military and civilian targets across Jammu and Kashmir.
Adding that Pakistan is aiming to escalate the situation, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh in her briefing said, “The Pakistan Army has been observed to be moving its troops towards forward areas, indicating an offensive intent to further escalate the situation. Indian armed forces remain in a high state of operational readiness.”
She also added that along the Line of Control, Pakistan has attempted multiple air intrusions using drones and has carried out shelling with heavy-caliber artillery guns, targeting civilian infrastructure and causing civilian casualties. Heavy exchanges of artillery, mortar fire, and small arms fire have continued in the Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, and Akhnoor sectors. The Indian Army has responded effectively and responsibly.
The most alarming aspect of these attacks, Colonel Qureshi noted, was the deliberate targeting of non-military structures, including a medical care centre and a school campus near the Srinagar Air Base, as well as civilian facilities around Awantipora and Udhampur. “This reflects a dangerous and desperate strategy by Pakistan to provoke fear among the population and destabilise civilian life in border regions,” she said.
Between midnight and early morning hours of May 10, Pakistani drones and high-speed missile vectors were detected attempting airspace intrusions across more than 26 locations—from Srinagar in the north to Naliya in Gujarat. Among the Indian Air Force stations that came under attack were Udhampur, Pathankot, Adampur, and Bhuj, where limited damage was reported to equipment and personnel. Multiple harassment attacks and airspace violations using heavy-caliber weapons were also recorded.
Despite the scale of the offensive, Indian forces managed to neutralise a majority of the incoming threats. “Our integrated air defence systems and early-warning capabilities ensured that the bulk of the attempted intrusions were thwarted,” said Colonel Qureshi.
In retaliation, the Indian Armed Forces launched a swift and calibrated counter-offensive, striking only pre-identified Pakistani military targets. These included command-and-control centres, radar facilities, and weapon storage depots located in Rafiqui, Chaklala, Murid, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian. Additionally, radar installations at Pasrur and the Sialkot aviation facility were engaged using precision-guided munitions deployed by Indian fighter aircraft.
“Our response was proportionate, strategic, and executed with precision to avoid collateral damage,” Qureshi emphasised, adding that India remains committed to maintaining restraint even in the face of provocation.
