Railway Infrastructure Company Gets BGN 154 Mln Interest-Free Loan for Two Projects

Meeting on Monday, the government approved an interest free loan of BGN 154,652,892 (exclusive of VAT) to the National Railway Infrastructure Company, said the government information service. The funding will go towards two projects: Modernization of the Sofia-Dragoman-Serbian border railway line: railway section Voluyak-Dragoman, Phase 2, and Modernization of the Sofia – Plovdiv railway line: railway section Elin Pelin – Kostenets, Phase 2.

The loan matures on December 31, 2024.

The implementation of the two projects started with funding from Operational Programme Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020. Any activities not implemented during the period of eligibility of costs under the operational programme will be included in the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027.

Pending the completion of the procedures, funding for construction, supervision, compulsory purchase and archaeology will be provided from the State budget and funds will be reimbursed once the projects are included in the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027, the government information service said.

The loan was approved to ensure continuation of the construction of the two key projects linking the Serbian border, Dragoman, Sofia and Plovdiv.
