[LAUREN TAYLOR]
AS THE PARIS OLYMPICS ARE IN FULL SWING, FRANCE IS GRAPPLING WITH A SERIES OF SABOTAGE INCIDENTS THAT ARE IMPACTING VITAL SERVICES. THE LATEST ATTACKS HAVE HIT THE NATION’S TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS — AFFECTING MORE THAN 11-THOUSAND CUSTOMERS.
FRENCH POLICE REVEALED FIBER OPTIC CABLES WERE DELIBERATELY SEVERED ACROSS SIX REGIONS SUNDAY NIGHT, THOUGH PARIS WAS UNAFFECTED. MARINA FERRARI, FRENCH SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DIGITAL AFFAIRS, CONDEMNED THE ACTS AS “COWARDLY AND IRRESPONSIBLE.”
THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED ON THE HEELS OF ARSON ATTACKS THAT DISRUPTED HIGH-SPEED TRAIN SERVICES FOR ROUGHLY 800-thousand people.
WHILE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THESE ATTACKS AS COORDINATED ASSAULTS ON NATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE, NO DIRECT CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED.
MEANWHILE AUTHORITIES HAVE TIED THE ARSON TO ‘ULTRA-LEFT’ ACTIVISTS, IDENTIFYING SEVERAL SUSPECTS AND MAKING AN ARREST. THE ARRESTED INDIVIDUAL, KNOWN FOR TIES TO ULTRA-LEFT MOVEMENTS, WAS FOUND WITH ITEMS IMPLICATING HIS POSSIBLE INVOLVEMENT IN THE RAILWAY SABOTAGE. IN RESPONSE, THE GOVERNMENT HAS INTENSIFIED ITS INTELLIGENCE OPERATIONS TO PREVENT FURTHER DISRUPTIONS DURING THE OLYMPICS.
