Gurgaon: GMDA has asked DLF to assess and upgrade the water supply infrastructure in the S-Block of DLF 3. The order comes after numerous complaints from residents to the district administration and GMDA and following site visits by officials highlighting shortcomings in the existing water supply system. The metropolitan authority also wrote to the deputy commissioner, seeking his direction for the developer. S-block residents reported severe water shortages, prompting GMDA to investigate the matter. During the site visit, officials discovered that, out of the 700 plots in the area, more than 300 are being used as paying guest accommodations, increasing the area’s water demand. The current infrastructure, including a storage tank with a capacity of 900 KL, is inadequate. The tank’s limited capacity requires it to operate continuously, straining the distribution network and resulting in insufficient water supply to homes, especially those on higher floors.DLF-3 has been getting 7,900-8,500 KLD of water supply against the sanctioned 10,155 KLD. To meet this shortfall, GMDA asked the developer to install additional tube wells to meet the immediate demand for potable water.In the letter to the deputy commissioner, GMDA said there is an urgent need for DLF to upgrade the water supply infrastructure with Public Health Engineering (PHE) norms to meet at least half-day water storage requirements. “Interlinking various streets over time and outdated boosting station machinery have reduced water availability and effective supply to tail-end areas. A thorough reassessment is necessary for consistent water supply across all zones,” the GMDA official said.The representative of the developer, however, maintained that the water storage capacity in DLF 3, including the S-block, has been constructed as per the approved service plan estimates, which were signed and approved by the DTCP. “S and V block underground water tanks of capacity 900 KL and 2100 KL, respectively, were constructed in addition to the already existing water storage tanks in U and V blocks,” said Nitya Mohan, head of facility management, DLF City.Meanwhile, residents blamed both the developer and GMDA for neglecting their responsibility. Prashant Kumar, an S block resident, said, “There has been no water for the last 10 days, and we are struggling to meet our basic needs. Since we are on higher floors, we are worst affected. The current infrastructure proves inadequate for the population that has increased manifold over the years.”
